The month in one line

June 2026 was confirmation month: the scale of the Q1 price shock was published, and the shortage-duration consensus hardened.

Primary market

On Jun 1, TrendForce reported that the rapid contract-price surge had driven 1Q26 DRAM industry revenue up 81% QoQ to roughly $97B, with conventional DRAM contract prices up 93–98% QoQ in 1Q26 — the largest quarterly increase on record. Micron’s June FQ3 results continued the record run, with the CEO reiterating supply tightness through 2027. Tom’s Hardware reported estimates that data centers would consume ~70% of memory chips made in 2026, spreading the shortage into other segments; press reports also tied Apple’s late-June hardware price increases to memory costs.

What it meant for used server memory

With new-module pricing ratifying at extreme levels and hyperscalers absorbing most primary output, enterprise buyers running installed DDR4 platforms (Dell 14/15G, HPE Gen10 class) had effectively one supply channel: decommissioned, tested modules. June closed with used DDR4 recovery values at or near their historic highs.
