RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS — updated 2026-08-08. Compiled from the dated public sources listed at the end of this issue; all figures are quoted from those sources.
July 2026 was the month the memory-price parabola visibly slowed: still rising, but no longer vertically.
TrendForce reported on Jul 3 that AI-server demand continued to support memory prices into 3Q26, but that gains were moderating as consumer demand weakened and base effects set in. On Jul 9 it quantified the deceleration: server DRAM contract prices expected up 13–18% QoQ in 3Q26 — down sharply from the 58–63% (2Q26) and record 93–98% (1Q26) quarters — with long-term agreements now capping further increases. SK hynix announced another record quarter (2Q26) on HBM/AI demand.
For the secondary market, deceleration at record price levels is not relief — it is consolidation at a high plateau. Decommissioned DDR4 (32GB ECC RDIMM class) remained the only practical DDR4 supply for most buyers, with recovery values holding near the historic highs reached earlier in the year.
